Food in New Zealand

With some delay, here's all the summary details for Food in New Zealand!

At the outset, I would note that I have only very rarely eaten in restaurants since I've mostly cooked me even in the hostels. Reason is not that I did not like the food, but that if one does not just Fish & Ordered chips, everything is very expensive (examples follow).

To mention advance is certainly also that New Zealand is a paradise for vegetarians! In all restaurants, so small they are, there are countless meatless dishes and also on the shelf in the supermarket all vegetarian and gluten-free products can be distinguished.

Legendary in New Zealand by the way is the coffee !! Everywhere it is offered also to take away and the taste is really good! I think I spent a total of more money on coffee than for food 😉

Food on the go

Since I was most of the time anyway on the way, I have bought in the supermarket breads and spreads. There is a large selection of spreads and dips, as the laughs vegetarians heart! So there are the 8 different varieties of hummus, with feta, sharp with lime, with nut-scraps etc. Even with the dips change comes into play here is mixed sweet and sour, like here the rhubarb / cheese / cashew and Pistazienpestodip!

Probably the most famous next to the kiwi fruit is the Feijoa. It is green on the outside and is eaten like a kiwi. The taste is a little too soap-like for my circumstances.

Asado, the Argentinean grilled meats

Probably the most popular foods in the Argentine is the beef that you usually grilling, what one calls Asado. Almost all supermarkets offer a wide range of fresh meat.

Mate

Now I must write a few lines to the national drink Mate course also. Here is a slightly bitter herbal tea, which is drunk around the clock. The Argentines also constantly carry their thermos around with it. The tea is drunk from a vessel that is made out of a pumpkin. You take a metal straw that includes a screen below. Drinking is seen is socially very important and the vessel is passed.

Essen in Chile

The food in the south of Chile consists of many fish dishes, as there is little pasture for cows etc.

Der Apertitiv

In restaurants is usually served with bread butter and advance a Chilean specialty. It is the Pebre: chopped tomatoes and onions, which are flavored with coriander, lemon juice, oil, parsley and green chili.

To do this, then ordered the typical aperitif, the Pisco Sour, a mix of pisco and lemon juice, very delicious! Or in the south to Calafate Sour, which is made with the juice of this fruit shrub.

Fish and Seafood

Our favorite is the fish with cream Paprikasouce tasted, here called "a la vasca", this must be said that we have only learned to write the article that Congrio eel !! The waiter had in fact sold to us as white fish!

There are also many other seafood such as clams, shrimp and king crab that can be had by European standards to relatively normal to low prices.

Avocados Süss und

Definitely worth mentioning are the avocado, which is here called locally Paltas with the great variety Palta hatred. Nowhere else have I eaten so delicious avocados, which are found mostly in Chile in all salads.

In general, the Chileans like to eat sweet, sometimes for dinner cake. Here certainly have had their fingers in the pie German immigrants. Very loved here is the Manjar, which is included in other parts of South America Dulce de leche, a sort of caramelized milk which is spread between two cookies or simply smeared on bread.

So, as you see, is not starved in Chile! Let's see what my world tour yet so brings culinary with it! And never forget: scratching ifs forward and bites back, take monastery Melissengeist! 😉

Costa Riquissssima - Essen in Mittelamerika

Delicious and cheap food in Costa Rica

In the 17 days we spent in Costa Rica, we had the opportunity to taste the national dishes. This also does not take too long, because that is the same for breakfast, lunch and dinner here .... mostly rice and beans ...

Gallo Pinto, das Landesgericht

The most famous dish in Costa Rica consists of prepared the day before rice with red beans. Both ingredients with the addition of some spices fried with a little oil in a pan and then together with other side dishes such as scrambled eggs and / or bananas (below) served.

Ceviche – Roher Fisch als Suhsi-Alternative

When Ceviche is a seafood dish that has its origins actually in countries such as Peru, but has been transformed in Costa Rica to a food that is offered almost everywhere.

Ceviche Costa Rica.jpg

Kochbananen

At virtually every dish in Costa Rica are served as a side dish plantains.

The second method of preparation is also part of almost every meal. Here the bananas are roasted in the oven on both sides, added a little oil or butter and then cut lengthwise according to taste and add cheese. Above all, this version is for breakfast very popular.

fried-bananen.jpg

Otherwise, we also eat a lot of fried or deep-fried fish eaten as here, the fajitas into strips.

Essen Costa Rica

Since it is mainly consumed in Costa Rica, what is grown in their own country, there is the typical food stalls, the "soda" rather little varied dishes as above.

wpid-soda-costa-rica2.jpg

Are very popular in Costa Rica and the fresh fruit juices and milkshakes which are available everywhere for about 2 euros. You fit especially in the hot months to excellent salads.

Even though we are now a long time no rice to eat more beans, tasted it to us anyway in Costa Rica!
